The Smallest Towns in the Philippines

Perhaps one of the most popular towns in the country is the Municipality of Pateros, a First-class Municipality in Metro Manila. This small town is famous for its duck-raising industry and especially for the production of the famous Filipino delicacy called “balut” Pateros is the only municipality and the smallest, both in population and in land area, in Metro Manila, but it is the second most densely populated at around 27 thousand people per square kilometer after Manila.

 Municipalities are classified according to income. Towns with the largest income are classified as first class while municipalities with the least income are categorized as sixth class.

1.) Kalayaan

Kalayaan is considered as the smallest municipality. It used to have a population of more than 300 civilian but due to the tension going on at the Spratly’s, the population dropped to more than 60 people. This 5^th class municipality is located in the province of Palawan. It is composed of only one barangay known as Pag-asa.

Ivana is a town located in the province of Batanes, the country’s smallest province. This 6^th class municipality has a population of 1,181 people. It is the 2^nd smallest municipality.

3.) Uyugan

With a population of 1,203 people, the town of Uyugan is the 3^rd smallest municipality in the Philippines. This town in Batanes is a 6^th class municipality.

4.) Carasi

The 4^th smallest municipality in the archipelago based on population is Carasi. This 5^th class municipality is located in the province of Ilocos Norte. According to the latest census, it has a population of 1,435 people.

5.) Sabtang

Another small town located in Batanes is Sabtang. This 6^th class municipality has a population of 1,465 people according to the latest census. It is the 5^th smallest town.

Adams, like the town of Kalayaan, is composed of only one barangay. It is a 5^th class municipality in Ilocos Norte. Its population according to the latest census is 1,522 people.

Most of the smallest towns in the Philippines are located in the province of Batanes. The 7^th smallest town is Mahatao, a 6^th class municipality with a population of 1,539 people according to the latest census.

8.) Dumalneg

Dumalneg is a 5^th class municipality in the province of Ilocos Norte. Like Adams and Kalayaan, it is composed of only one barangay also. With a population of 1,716 people, it is the 8^th smallest town in the Philippines.

9.) Daguioman

The 9^th smallest town in the country is the 6^th class municipality of Daguioman. This town, with a population of 1,916 people, is located in the province of Abra in Cordillera Administrative Region. It is composed of 4 barangays.

10.) Bucloc

The 10^th smallest town in the archipelago is the 6^th class town of Bucloc in Abra province. It is composed of 4 barangays with a population of 2,227 people according to the latest census.
