Polygamy had been practice since time immemorial. In this form of marriage, a person has more than one spouse at the same time. It is the absolute opposite of Monogamy – the practice of having only one spouse at a time.

1.) King Solomon – 700 Wives and 300 Concubines
The most famous polygamist is King Solomon. As stated on the First Kings 11:1-3, King Solomon had 700 hundred wives and 300 hundred concubines or secondary wives. Many of them are foreign princesses from lands of which God had previously instructed the Israelites to avoid intermarrying. The only wife whose name was mentioned in the Bible is Naamah, an Ammonite and was the mother of Rehoboam, Solomon’s successor.
During the early days, it is a custom for lesser kings to give their daughter in sealing treatise with a greater king like Solomon. So every time a new treaty was sealed, he ended up with another wife. These wives were considered tokens of friendship sealed the relationship between the two kings.
