The vehicles included on the list are the world record title holders. These are all highly-sophisticated and high-tech state-of-the-art vehicles.
1.) Thrust SSC – Fastest Land Speed Record Holder
The land speed record holder belongs to the “Thrust SSC” Turbo fan. It was driven by Andy Green on October 15, 1997 and achieved a breath-taking speed of 1,228 km/hr – the first supersonic record. The event took place at the Black Rock Desert, USA.
The SSC on the Thrust SSC means Supersonic Car. This British jet-propelled car became the first car to officially break the sound barrier.
2.) Vesco Turbinator – Fastest Wheel-driven Land Speed Record
The fastest wheel-driven land speed record belongs to the Vesco Turbinator which was driven by Don Vesco of the United States on October 18, 2001. This land vehicle attained a speed record of 737.395 km/h.
3.) JCB Dieselmax – Fastest Land Speed Record for a Diesel-engined Vehicle
The JCB Dieselmax, a diesel-engined “Streamliner” car was designed to break the land speed record for a diesel-engined vehicle. It holds the World Diesel-powered land speed record with a speed of 560 km/h. it was driven by Andy Green and achieved the record in 2006.
4.) A Top Oil-Ack Attack – Fastest Motorcycle Land Speed Record
The world’s fastest motorcycle land speed record was attained by the Top Oil-Ack Attack which was driven on September 25, 2010 by Rocky Robinson of the United States. The event took place in Bonneville, USA. Robinson used the vehicle “A Top Oil-Ack Attack” streamliner with an engine displacement of 2,600 cc and reached a speed of 605.697 km/h. Hayabusa is still the fastest production motorcycle in the world.
The world record holder for the fastest electric-powered land speed record is the Buckeye Bullet. It attained the speed record of 495.140 km/h on August 24, 2010. The vehicle was driven by Roger Schroer of the United States on the world-famous Bonneville Speedway.
The fastest wind-powered land speed record is held by the Ecotricity Greenbird which was driven by Richard Jerkins of the United Kingdom on March 26, 2009. It achieved a speed record of 202.9 km/h at the Ivanpah Lake.
7.) Sunswift IVy – Solar-powered Land Speed Record
Solar-powered car will soon be the car of the next generations. The world record title holder for the fastest solar-powered land speed record belongs to the Sunswift IVy. The vehicle, driven by Barton Mawer of Australia, attained a speed of 88.8 km/hr on January 7, 2011. The Sunswift Ivy is currently the top ranked silicon solar car in the world.
