The Largest Hats in the World

Wearing of hats have been part of human culture since time immemorial. There are different styles and designs of hat. Hats are worn for various reasons. Basically, it is worn for protection from the heat f the sun. In some ways, it is worn as a status symbol or as a symbol of power or authority.

Here are some of the largest hats in the world.

Mexican Sombreros


The Mexicans are known worldwide for the colorful headdresses they wore during beauty pageants and celebration of different festivals. They are also well known for wearing large and colorful hats known as “Mexican Sombreros”.



These hats come from different colors and designs but all are large.

Sombrero Vueltiao


The large Sombrero Vueltiao is a hat with laps and is the traditional hat of Colombian of South America.  This symbol of Colombia is made out of  CaƱa Flecha, scientifically known as Gynerium sagittatum. The quality of the hat is determined by the number of "laps" used and its bending flexibility. The more flexible the hat, the higher the quality is. It is also called Sombrero Vueltiado.

Sombrero Cordobes


Sombrero is the Spanish for hat. The Sombrero Cordobes is a traditional hat made in the Cordoba City, Spain. It is also traditionally worn in a large part of Andalusia. In the English-speaking world, Sombrero Cordobes simply mean "Wide-brimmed Hat". The most traditional color is black. It also comes in different colors such as red, pearl gray, sea green and navy blue.

Cowboy Hat


One of the most popular hats in the world is the Cowboy Hat, a high-crowned, wide-brimmed hat. It is best known as the defining piece of attire for the North American cowboy.


Today it is worn by many people, and is particularly associated with ranch workers in the western and southern United States, western Canada and northern Mexico, with country-western singers, and for participants in the North American rodeo circuit.

Chupalla


The Chupalla is a large traditional Chilean horseman’s hat. It is commonly made of straw and worn by many people in rural areas. It is also often used when dancing the Chilean folk dance Cueca and during Chilean rodeos. Types of straw used in making Chupalla include Achupalla (Bromelia plant), wheat and rice.
