Ultimate interior design element for nerds
Apple products tend to have more emphasis on the design than technology, but Aiino Clustmaster 12U Rack for Xserve makes even the high-performance Apple products fit into a work room. This rack cabinet is low, about the height of a writing table, and to make it possible to have one in a home, sound-proofed. The rack might cost 2000 euros, but if one fills it with Xserves instead of more normal server brands, that is quite little.
Fire no longer main cause of damage
2009 was the first year in Finnish insurance statistics when the main cause for home damage was no longer fire. Now over 70 million euros worth of damage was caused by water leaks from home appliances. This is a result of both rising number of homes having both a washing machine and a dishwasher and availability of low quality appliances.
Optimal DVD storage
What is the optimal DVD storage system? My opinion is that it should show all the DVD cases, but protect them from dust. That means a cabinet with a glass door. A more space-oriented solution would be to use drawers, so that more disks fit at the same wall space. But as seeing the cases is nice, my choice is Muurame Neppari.
Ipod is everywhere
No room is complete without an iPod dock, at least if you look at what Gorenje offers. They have included an iPod dock to a fridge, complete with a fridge-control software for the iPod.

Cheapest wine cabinet in Finland?
As Verkkokauppa.com tries to expand from selling just computer equipment, they are offering some items on new categories at low prices. A fine example is a wine cabinet for 90 euros. Of course, it comes from a Chinese factory just next to the one producing motherboards, but so does what others are selling.

Google TV
During last 20 years of technological revolution in our homes TV stays pretty much the same. Yes, we have larger and flatter screens and better sound but the principles are same like before 20 years, we have to search through large schedules in order to find when our favorite show is played and then wait on that time. There are attempts of interactive TV but it is still too much complicated and nearly every producer has his own solution. People from Google start to think how to make all these things much more simple. Their build their TV solution on the technologies which they already developed: search engine, YouTube, Chrome browser and Android OS. The main idea is that when we want to watch something we just google it on our TV similar like on PC. And we get timetable when it is played, where is possible to download it, related videos on YouTube etc.

Interior Design For Birds
I found a funny bird box from Urban Outfitters. Why not let birds also enjoy about interior design!
I'm not quite sure what birds would say about the cat face... ;)

Small Things Matter
Small things are a good way to give some colour to a space. Different coloured fabrics and unique items can be changed for example by seasons and that means that you don't have to change the whole decoration when bored to the old one. It's good to choose timeless items and patterns so that you want to use them again and they don't become disposable.
I visited couple of online shops and foud a few items for inspiration. This time bright blue caught my eye.

Unique Wallcoverings
Plain white is a good colour to use on walls. It matches with anything and it's timeless. But wouldn't it be nice to make even just one of those walls a bit edgier? Here are some wallcoverings that I found from German Tapeten Agentur. My favourite is definitely the second one!
If you are a Jaws fan, this is what I recommend!
Maybe some orange to brighten your day?
Shoes! Creat idea for a shoeaholic ;).
This wallcovering would be a great extension to my bookshelf.
This tree is just like from a fairytale.

Should I Buy a Robotic Vacuum Cleaner?
The answer is strong yes for most people. Price tags on the cheapest models have come down during last couple years and the time starts to be ripe for buying one. Prices start from just a little bit over 100 dollars for the basic models. Some regular non-robotic vacuum cleaners are nowadays actually more expensive. Robotic vacuum cleaners have also matured technically. Few years back, tear and wear were common problems but as there has been multiple model updates, most such problems should be in the history now.
So which one would be the best one? The available selection has gone up fast with the market. Robotic vacuum cleaners are pretty popular (still lagging iPhone though) so there are multiple vendors for them. Few things that should affect your choice are:
- Price: What can you afford? Often the more expensive models have higher quality.
- Area: What are you cleaning? Should robot fit under the sofa that's just 8 cm high? Are there stairways that the robot should be able to detect (most do nowadays). And how big should the dust bin and the battery be? Small and cheap robots won't handle large areas that well.
- Maintenance: Eventhough robots need less maintenance nowadays, they still require some help every now and then. Ease of maintenance and price of spare parts should show up on your list when making a decision.
- Other: there are many other differences too. Some robots have for example better collision detection which can be handy if you have easily breakable objects in the cleaning area.
One of the best known manufacturer is probably iRobot with its Roomba robots. Roombas are good basic cleaners that do their job well. iRobot has also solid support and spare parts are availabe for almost everything. One of the latest contenders is Neato robotics and its XV-11 robot. Some say that it's a solid contender against Roomba. More well known manufacturers, such as Siemens, have also their own models, though they are usually on the higher end of the price range.

The Oval Office Makeover
No doubt, President Obama'saddress to nation about Iraq war is of prime concern to all Americans,Iraqis and international community. But Mr. Obama recent address has a new hottopic for interior designer to talk.
The address was made fromnewly decorated surrounding. The Oval Office has been tweaked, in a makeover orchestratedby the California decorator Michael Smith. In response, television audiencesand the blogosphere seemed to produce collective yawn: too brown, too dowdy. Tooho hum, they pronounced as one.
It is a subtle redo: The desk is still Resolute,a gift from Queen Victoria to Rutherford B. Hayes, builtfrom pieces of a salvaged Arctic discovery vessel. (With the exception ofJohnson, Nixon and Ford, every president since Hayes has used it.) The goldsilk damask curtains installed by Barack Obama’s predecessorare also unchanged.

Futon - good for back, good for eye?
Futon is a mattress type that originates from Japan and other eastern countries. Futons mattresses are usually filled with cotton or wool. Though some have also more exotic fillings such as latex layers in them. Compared to usual mattresses, futons are much less soft. Because they don't give up under body weight, many say that they are better for your back. Some also like them better for sex as they give better support.
Futons can be used with almost any interior design, but they are probably best for simplified Japanese styling:
Because futons don't have springs or other complex parts, they can change shape. Usual Japanese style is to roll mattress away from bed after waking up and hiding it into a closet - great way if you're tight on space. Futons are also great for quest room or for sofa-bed.
