Wine festivals are usually held after the harvest of the grapes. Historically, the oldest documented wine festivals were the Greek celebrations for their wine god Dionysus. On the other hand, a Beer Festival is an organized event where varieties of beers are available for tasting and purchase.

Spain – Haro Wine Festival
Spain is one of the world’s largest producers of wine and La Rioja is one of the country’s largest wine-producing regions. It is where the popular Haro Wine Festival is celebrated every 29th of June, the day of the patron saint San Pedro. This festival in the town of Haro involves wine drinking competitions and contests and a Batalla de Vino (Battle of Wine) where wine is fired from water pistols.
People attending the festival all wear white shirts and red scarves and all carrying bottles, jugs and other types of containers filled with red wine. After a procession and a mass people will be tossing wine on each other until all are soaked from head to foot, hence, a sea of wet, pink shirts is everywhere.
