1.) Teofilo Yldefonso – Swimming

Teofilo Yldefonso, known as “the Ilocano Shark”, was the first Filipino to win an Olympic medal and the only Filipino to win multiple medals. This Filipino swimmer who specialized in the breaststroke was born in Piddig, Ilocos Norte. Teofilo Yldefonso is the only back-to-back Filipino Olympic medalist. He accomplished this extremely rare feat at the 1928 Amsterdam Summer Olympics and at the 1932 Los Angeles Summer Olympics.

2.) Ambrosio Bibby Padilla – Basketball


Ambrosio Bibby Padilla, a former basketball player, was elected Senator of the Philippines. He was from Lingayen, Pangasinan and was one of the most important figures in the development of Asian basketball.

I am an Ilocano and I am proud to be one. Ilocano is one of the leading dialects in the Philippines. Most Ilocanos can be found in the island of Luzon particularly in Northern and Central Luzon.



1.) Ilocano is the 3rd largest spoken language in the Philippines with a total of more than 10 million speakers.
2.) About 10.1% of the population of the Philippines consists of Ilocanos.
3.) The Ilocanos are descendants from Astronesian-speaking people from Southern China who traveled to the archipelago through Formosa, now known as Taiwan.
